Some Cool Low Cost Demos
Dale Stille - University of Iowa (30 min)

The past year has seen the further development of a partnership between the University of Iowa Department of Physics and Astronomy outreach arm and the University of Iowa College of Educations "Project Hope" program to provide workshops for middle school students to introduce them to various aspects of the health science profession.  Project Hope (Healthcare Occupations Preparation and Exploration) is a STEM based program designed to introduce minority and low socioeconomic students to a comprehensive health professions career education program that also includes strategies for parents and teachers.  To this end we will present results of several soldering workshops that we did in May fo 2020 designed to address robotic sensors and their limitations by building small light seeking robot kits.  Most noteworthy is that the students get to take their finished robot home with them which result in parent interaction and very positive parent and teacher feedback for the program.
